An honest comparison
Go to Apple if your iPhone is under warranty or AppleCare, or if you want a genuine Apple part. If it isn’t covered and you’re paying yourself, compare Apple’s estimate with our price and pick what matters more to you.

Side by side
For an iPhone screen or battery. Apple’s column is what Apple’s own pages said on November 2, 2026; follow the links for today’s terms.
| Apple Store | iPhone Repair Cafe | |
|---|---|---|
| Covered by Apple warranty or AppleCare | Yes. The warranty covers manufacturing issues for one year; AppleCare adds accidental damage. Source ↗ | No. We can’t use your Apple coverage, and you pay for the repair. |
| Parts | Genuine Apple parts. Source ↗ | Mostly aftermarket OLED or LCD screens and batteries from a reliable supplier most repair shops on the East Coast use. If an original part matters to you, ask: we can fit one when it’s available. You choose before work starts. |
| Price if you’re not covered | Apple’s cost tool gives an estimate for your model; the final fee is set after inspection. Source ↗ | Screens $69 to $269, plus tax; batteries $69 to $175, plus tax, depending on the model. The price is the same at all five stores. You see and approve the total price before any work starts. |
| Warranty on the repair | 90 days, or the rest of your Apple warranty if that is longer. Source ↗ | OLED screens 12 months limited; LCD screens none; batteries and other repairs 30 days; water damage none. |
| What Settings shows afterward | The part is listed as genuine. Source ↗ | A non-Apple screen is listed as an unknown part. Apple says that can lower trade-in value. |
| How you get started | In person at a Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Service Provider, or by mail in a prepaid box. Source ↗ | Walk in or book at any of the five stores. |
| Time for a screen | Not stated on Apple’s repair page. Ask when you arrange it. Source ↗ | Usually 30–60 minutes, up to 90 minutes at most. |
| Your data | Back up first: Apple’s warranty says storage is deleted and reformatted during warranty service. Source ↗ | A screen replacement normally doesn’t touch your data, and we never erase a phone without asking. |
Your repair questions
Apple’s warranty doesn’t cover damage caused by service from anyone other than Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or by a part that doesn’t meet Apple’s specifications. The terms don’t say the rest of the warranty ends.
If your iPhone is still covered, that is a good reason to start with Apple.Source: Apple: One-year limited warranty ↗iPhone lists the part as unknown in Settings → General → About → Parts and Service History. Apple says this doesn’t stop you using the phone. True Tone may not work.
If True Tone matters to you, tell us before the repair: we can transfer it to the new screen.Source: Apple: iPhone parts and service history ↗No. AppleCare covers accidental damage, so use it. Paying a shop for a repair your plan already covers rarely makes sense.
Source: Apple: Service and repair for iPhone ↗Enter your serial number on Apple’s coverage page. It shows your warranty and any AppleCare plan.
Source: Apple: Check your coverage ↗The diagnostic is $75, and it goes toward the repair if you decide to fix it. A cracked screen on a working phone doesn’t need one.
Apple also sets its final fee after inspecting the phone.Source: Apple: Service and repair for iPhone ↗Have a repair in mind?

More practical details
Not quite. They set their own fees for repairs you pay for, so an estimate can differ from Apple’s. For AppleCare service, Apple says the fee is the same at both.
Apple sells parts, tools and manuals through Self Service Repair for some newer models, but aims it at people with repair experience. A dropped screen is rarely the place to start.
No. After any screen replacement the phone is no longer water-resistant to its factory standard.
No. Water-damaged phones aren’t covered, so a repair after liquid damage comes with no warranty from us.
